This is my rough draft for the still image draft
for my portfolio assignment. My image, and whole entire premise for my
portfolio is on the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. My
thought process came to me when I was trying to figure out what kind of
still image I wanted to do. I am not the best at photoshop, but thought
that I could make a non-traditional collage of pictures that are related
to the different topics discussed in the story. I knew that I did not
want the photos to just be placed around each other, but intertwined and
made to look like the pictures are all connected, because all the these
main elements of To Kill a Mockingbird make it a great novel.
I first took a picture that would make a good
background setting for all the photos. I picked the sunset silhouette,
because I felt that it represented the setting of the story, especially
when it first starts off one hot Alabama summer morning. I then took a
couple of other pictures that related to the story. The ghost represents
Boo Radley, the courtroom where the trial took place, the sunset is the
transition from innocence, the two older people a walking are the Jem
and Scout walking down the way of life, the two hands represent two
different people coming together, the three kids watching it all are
Jem, Scout and Dill, just like they watched the trial go on, and of
course the mockingbird. With the mockingbird, I could have made it a
full silhouette, but thought it best to leave a mark in in, for killing a
mockingbird is a sin since they are innocent, therefore I felt that
some of Jem and Scout’s innocence was taken away in this book, but not
completely.
